Criticism

While many footballing proponents believe goal line technology would reduce the number of refereeing errors, there are also a number of drawbacks regarding the technology. Ironically, much of the criticism itself comes from the president of FIFA Sepp Blatter. Apart from the criticism regarding the techncical aspects of the technologies, much of critics consider that it would remove the human element of the game and eradicate the fun of debating and football pundits. In addition, people claim that the instant replays would interrupt the flow of the game and take away possible plays.

Other critics believe it would be prohibitively expensive to implement the technology at all levels of the game and particularly for smaller/poorer football associations.

Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke has estimated the cost to be between £120,000 and £160,000 for each system. However, he said he expects that figure to fall over time.
